Chummy, Coffee and Cupcakes.

Today I took advantage of the gorgeous weather and headed into Newcastle for a coffee date with my bestie Rachel (AKA Chummy) for a catch up as it feels like an age since we last had a get together. I nabbed a lift into town with my parents and popped for a pre-coffee coffee at Pink Lane Coffee, a local artisan cafe hidden away near the train station.  I've been meaning to check it out for ages, but I am rarely in that area of town anymore. I whole heartedly regret this decision as it is DE-LIGHT-FUL! Furniture made from wooden crates, mixed matched seats, coffee sacks galore and the milk comes in a teeny tiny bottle. Whats not to love?

So I settled down with my latte, Stylist and NE1 Magazine for an, albeit short, but highly enjoyable coffee break. Before my Latte had even touched the sides I tootled off down to Central Station to meet Rachel and we headed down to The Great British Cupcakery.

Now one thing i've noticed recently is North East Bloggers are OBSESSED with food, cake being the number one choice, so I was shamed to admit I had never visited the cafe before. Now i've always had a vague idea in my head of how I want my future kitchen to be decorated, white brick tiles with a hint of shabby chic, but today has clarified exactly what I want. I'd like The Great British Cupcakery to be transported into my kitchen (cakes included.) Pastel blues, mismatched tea cups, exposed wood, I was in interior heaven. Not to mention the cakes were delicious! I opted for an Eton Mess cupcake and Rachel chose the Victoria Sponge cupcake and a slice of Cheesecake Brownie. WOWIE!I thought my brownie was amazing, but I have some serious competition here. I am lucky living in Newcastle as we have an array of amazing local cafe's and bakeries that more often than not you don't realise they are there. So next time you fancy a caffeine kick step away from Starbucks and Costa and go hunting to see what quant little places you can find on your own doorstep.
