Minimalism, De-cluttering and How I'm Trying to Buy Less.

Minimalism. That's probably a word everybody is aware of these days, you see it all over Pinterest with minimal wardrobes and minimal decor etc. I admit it wasn't really something I paid that much attention to, until earlier in the year.

I've spoken a little bit before about hoarding tendencies, like this post where I talked about how I declutter when I tend to hold onto things I don't need or use. I’ve read The Life Changing Magic of Tidying up and it really did help me to de-clutter items in my home that didn’t bring me joy. But I quickly found myself purchasing unnecessary items again as her concept teaches you how to declutter and how to organise the belongings you have, not how to reduce the amount of items you buy as such.

Dinning at 100ft - Events in the Sky with Chaophrya and S.Pellegrino

Dinning at 100ft - Events in the Sky with Chaophrya

When the email arrived in my inbox inviting me along to Newcastle in the sky in collaboration with S.Pellegrino I instantly said yes.  I mean how often do you get the chance to dine 100ft in the air? Then reality hit and as somebody who isn't all that good with heights, you can imagine how scared I was.  But I was lucky enough that Lee agreed to come along as my plus one, as I don't think I would have managed to get myself up there on my own.

Cruelty Free Skincare - LUSH

Lush - Cruelty Free Skincare Routine

I've spoken previously in posts about switching products over to cruelty free beauty and make up products. But I must admit my vanity took over a little and I found myself still buying products that had been tested on animals. Then back in July something changed.

Jewellery Box - Affordable Silver Jewellery.

Jewellery Box - Affordable Silver Jewellery

Now I'm the type of person who when it comes to jewellery its all or nothing. I either have really big bold statement necklaces and earrings, or super small and dainty jewellery. Its rare I go for anything thats kind of in the middle. So when Jewellery box got in touch asking if I'd like to try some of their pieces I thought this would be a great chance to try something different. But typical me I opted for my usual dainty bits of silver jewellery as they had so many beautiful pieces it was daft to choose anything different.

Meet and Treat: Newcastle's Hidden Gem

Meet and Treat Newcastle, Asian fusion, Asian food, Asian Cafe

I adore food, like I really love it. When I go anywhere new the first thing I do is find out where is good to eat, I can't help myself, I'm a foodie. But I often forget to try new places in my own city and tend to always go to the same places which can get quite boring. Over the past year or so I have been trying to visit new places and try new food instead of my usual eateries all the time.

Girls Night In - Hoar Cross Hall*

Last month I was lucky enough to head down to Hoar Cross Hall with HannahHelen and Chloe to experience a girls night in package and enjoy a little bit of pampering. This was my first trip to a Spa, shocking I know. So I was really excited to see what all the fuss was about - and I can assure you I was not disappointed.

CarnLIVal - Hope Street Hotel Liverpool

CarnLIVal - Hope Street Hotel Liverpool

Last month myself and Yasmina jumped on a train and travelled down to Liverpool for the CarnLIVal event hosted by Katy and Sam. This is the first time I've ventured to a different city for a blogger event so was a little nervous, but I can safely say the 5.30am start and 7 hours of my day spent on a train was totally worth it. I think one of the main reasons I decided to make the trip was because I'm feeling quite disconnected with the local blogging community. With an influx of fake followers, Instagram bots and bitchy cliques, it doesn't feel as warm and welcoming as it used to. So I decided it was time to step out of my comfort zone and spend the day hanging out with some fabulous ladies in a different city.

Bedroom Decor and Cushion Covers*

As you may know we recently changed our bedroom around a little. Our flat has two bedrooms and we previously had the larger one as our bedroom and the smaller as our office. But having house/cat sat for a neighbour a while ago I saw how she had the smaller room as her bedroom, and it looked super cosy. So we decided to have a move around and create a cosy peaceful little room to sleep. We kept the wardrobes in the larger room,  as I used to do my hair and make up in the office anyway, so it just made sense to make the larger room an office/dressing room.

Feeling Fuchsia

These photos were taken by Yasmina on our recent trip to Liverpool for the CarnLIVal event. We were a little early for the event so decided to take advantage of the gorgeous Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on Hope Street. I must say this is probably the most public place I've ever taken photos as I usually hide myself down a quiet side street. But I really pushed myself to stand in the middle of a fairy busy street of an unknown city and I really think they paid off!

Finally Trying Colourpop.

Colourpop Costmetics, Colourpop Creeper, Colourpop Tulle, Colourpop Avenue

If you're like me you would have been over the moon when Colourpop was finally available for delivery to the UK. So a little while ago myself, Chloe, Helen and Amy all took advantage of deal for free UK shipping and shared a delivery, this helped split the cost of customs which was about £20. After many an hour scouring the inter-web looking at swatches I finally decided on three shades of their liquid lipsticks to try, Creeper, Tulle and Avenue.

Secondhand Style #1 - What an egg-cellent dress

As I mentioned in this post the majority of my wardrobe has been bought in charity shops, Ebay and Depop. As a huge bargain hunter and savvy secondhand searcher I want to start featuring these more often in my outfit posts. So I've decided to begin a little feature called Secondhand Style, so you can see all the fab bits and bobs I've managed to pick up, and believe me there is loads.

Hive Coffee Company at Jarrow Hall.

Hive Coffee Company, Jarrow, Gluten Free, Vegan, Cafe, Vegan Cafe, Jarrow Hall, Coffee

Last Thursday evening I attended the V.I.P launch of Hive Coffee Company, a cafe based in Jarrow Hall which opened at the weekend. The cafe is a collaboration between two friends, Eve McPadden and Sarah Daglish, and they're helping bring the old Bede's world site back to life. I remember visiting Bede's world on a school trip in year 3 and was sad to hear of its closure. But thanks to the the charity Groundwork the site has been re-launched in October 2016 as Jarrow Hall, Anglo-Saxon Farm, Village and Bede Museum.

Current Skincare Favourites.

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish. Primark Micellar cleansing water. Pixi Glow Tonic. Nuxe multi-purpose dry oil. Midnight Recovery Concentrate. Aurelia Cell Revitalise Nigh Moisturiser.

I'm going to be honest here, skincare isn't my best skill. I always have the intentions of researching products and finding out what works best with my skin type (which I think is combination) but truth be told I don't do any of that. I generally go by the mantra of if I like what I'm using I'll carry on using it. Does that make any sense? I think because my skin is neither super oily or super dry I tend not to worry too much about if a product is 'right' for my skin type. I won't worry if I'm using a moisturiser thats aimed at oily skin or dry skin as I'm a combination of the two. But recently I've found myself reaching for the same products over and over again. So I thought today I'd give you a quick run through the products I'm loving and how I use them in my routine.

Why I Love Charity Shops

Charity Shops, Charity Shopping, Charity Shop Fashion, Thrifted Style, Thrifted, Thrifting, Personal Style

If you didn't know it already I am a huge fan of Charity Shops, which is quite handy seeing as I'm an Assistant Manager of one. But rewind about 5 years and I think I'd stepped foot in a charity shop once. This was around the time I was 15-16 and I wanted to be Kate Nash and thought 'thrifting' was mega cool. But it wasn't until I started volunteering in a charity shop in my second year of university that I really started to fall in love with them.

Fast forward to the present day and I reckon about 90% of my wardrobe is now secondhand. This is generally a mixture of things purchased on Depop and Ebay, but most of my clothing has been purchased in charity shops. This is something I do want to talk about more often on here as its a big hobby of mine, and I plan on featuring a lot more of my 'thrifted' items - which is basically most of my wardrobe at the moment. But today I thought I'd share with you why exactly I love Charity shops so much.

Moving In With Your Boyfriend - One Year On

The end of last month marked one whole year of Lee and myself living together, its flown by so quickly and I can't quite believe we've been in our own little flat for one whole year. Moving in with your partner is a huge step in a relationship and can be quite scary. We were lucky as we did have a couple of little trial runs here and there when Lee temporarily lived with me in my last student house, and again just before we moved in together, where he lived with me at my mums for 6 months.

Beforehand you often have this idea of what living with your partner might be like, but sometimes you're not always aware of the reality of it. Its not always romance and roses and being naked all the time, sometimes its sitting on the loo and realising you've ran out of toilet roll midway through a shit, and having to sit and shout hoping your other half with come rescue you with some Andrex. So I thought I'd chat today about all the things I've learnt so far about living with a boy, and I mean all of it.

Chaophraya: Newcastle's Newest Rooftop Restaurant

Chaophraya: Newcastle's Newest Rooftop Restaurant,

If you live in Newcastle you'll be aware that loads of new restaurants have recently opened in Eldon Square, there was quite a few that are restaurants that we already have which is a little disappointing. However there have been quite a few new places opening up for the first time in the city and last month I was lucky enough to be invited along with a plus one to the official opening of Chaophraya, Newcastle's new rooftop thai restaurant.

Now I must apologise in advance for the quality of these photographs, I didn't want to lug my huge camera around with me all day so decided to bring along a little Nikon bridge camera that I have. But due to the ambient lighting of the venue it struggled quite a bit with lighting so a lot of the photos turned out quite blurry and generally a little bit shit. So I've included a few of the official photographs from the night so you can all see how beautiful the food and decor really is.

How to de-clutter when you have hoarding tendencies.

How to de-clutter when you have hoarding tendencies.

When a new year rolls around everybody tends to sign up for gym memberships, aims to drink more water and tries to de-clutter their homes. I'm the first to admit I am a little bit of a hoarder, I tend to hold on to pointless crap that I don't really need. It wasn't until it came to packing to move out last last year I decided it was time to have a big clear out and I got rid of all my clutter ready to start afresh. Even after we moved in and it became clear we didn't have the most amazing storage so I had another clear out and was really really ruthless with what I kept.

This was mostly down to the fact I had just read The Life Changing Magic of Tidying and felt inspired to follow her method and see if it finally helped me to part with things. There were sections of the book I thought were a little far fetched, like the idea of thanking your belongings and folding your socks because they work really hard protecting your feet. I guess this is a cultural difference between western and eastern culture and how we view things differently. But the main principal of the book was something I could really get on bored with, only keeping belongings that make you happy or 'spark joy'.

Taking The Time To Find Yourself.

You probably all know this already, but I've struggled with self confidence issues for a while now as my ass has grown considerable amounts over the past couple of years. Basically I'm always moaning about hating the majority of my clothes, rarely feeling good in anything and always feel as though I am having a style crisis.

A few weeks ago it occurred to me that it was less about not knowing what clothes I like, but more about not feeling comfortable in anything anymore. Especially when it comes to the clothes I really want to wear. Does anybody else live in jeans and jumpers when they feel like they look like crap? Because thats what I do, I throw on 'lazy clothes' which often makes me feel even worse.

So one evening I sat down with a notebook and pen, very old school, and opened up Pinterest. I decided the best way to figure out what clothes I love was by looking through my Pinterest boards and finding common themes. This helped me loads as there was quite a few trends that kept popping up throughout all my fashion boards that I gravitate towards time and time again.

Goodbye to 2016 - Whats next?

Jacket: Zaful  Scarf: Zaful Jumper: Primark (similar) Jeans: Primark (similar) Watch: Daniel Wellington

Goodbye 2016 and good riddance! 2016 seems to be the year everybody hated and couldn't wait to see the back of. Minus all the celebrity deaths (thinking about Alan Rickman still makes me tear up) Brexit, Refugee crisis, Donald Trump etc I don't think 2016 has been all that bad - not for me anyway. So I thought I'd do a little cliched year summary of the good things that happened over the past year.
