Lush Newcastle Blogger Breakfast: Halloween and Christmas Showcase

Lush Halloween and Christmas Showcase

Now I’ve been a huge lover of Lush for as long as I remember. One of the first blogger events I went to was a Lush event back in 2013. So when Lush Newcastle announced they were hosting a blogger event I jumped at the chance to go. This event was to promote the launch of the new Halloween and Christmas range – and we all got the first glimpse before the shop was open to the public.

On arrival we were all greeted with name badges, fruit juice and a range of Vegan pizzas that had been generously supplied by Pizzastorm – it was really nice to be at an event that had Vegan catering as it meant everybody had equal choices when it came to food.

We were able to wander around for the first 10-15 minutes or so to give us all a chance to have a peek around the shop, sniff everything and of course take lots and lots of photos. We were then split into groups where each was taken around to different members of staff who each talked us through different product areas of the new Christmas and Halloween ranges.

My group was the first to have a chance to make our own bubble bars, which is always loads of fun. I’ve made products at Lush events before and its always a nice touch to get your hands stuck in and see what exactly goes into making the products. My particular group made our own version of Sunnyside, which was always one of my favourite bubble bars – who can resist glitter?

After mixing the ingredients together we had to let the mixture rise a little, so our group let the mixture do its magic as we carried on with our tour around the shop being shown some of the new products. We then went back at the end to finish our little bubble bars.

We were all given the option to either make ours to fit the normal mold, or we could make something of our own choosing which was quite fun. I opted for making little mini balls so I could just pop each one in my bath instead of trying to break chunks off. After we made our bubble bars the Lush Newcastle staff wrapped them up for us and popped them in our little goodie bag. Unfortunately, mine got quite squashed in the process and by the time I got them home had just become one big lump again, which was a shame.

The first area of the shop we were shown around was the shower products. We were initially shown a number of the new soap products, which I admit isn’t something I buy that often from Lush. However, I do remember using ‘Honey I washed the kids’ once when I was younger and loved the smell.

Alongside the soap products, we were shown some of the new naked lip scrubs and lip tints. The Lush 2017 Christmas range is focused a lot on naked packaging which is a really exciting new concept and they have released a number of their products without packaging to help reduce plastic waste – which I think it’s a great idea and really fits in with Lush’s ethics. So far they’re only releasing the limited edition Christmas products this way, but plan to roll this out amongst their other ranges.

The Naked lip scrubs really caught my eye – having used their lip scrubs before I always find them a little messy and end up with more sugar in my sink than I do on my lips. These naked ones are a more nourishing and moisturising formula which sounds right up my street. I often suffer from dry lips in the winter and the scrubs do a fabulous job of buffing away dead skin, but I always have to apply lots of lip balm afterwards. The new naked formula demolishes this as they have cocoa butter in to help nourish your lips as well as exfoliate.

The naked shower gels and body conditioners are probably the most exciting part of the Lush Christmas release and the ones I think are going to be most popular with customers. Although they do look like a giant block of soap, they are anything but. They are all the exact same formula as the shower gels we all know and love – minus the plastic bottles and the water. All you have to do to use them is to lather them up when you’re in the shower or bath and use them the same way you would use the normal shower gels. I have Berry Merry Christmas in the naked formula so I shall report back on how I find them – not sure how I’m going to feel having a slimy shower gel bottle on the side of my bath, but we shall see.

The final section of our little tour of the shop was the bath bombs and the fairly new jelly bomb range. I’m probably not alone in this, but the bath bombs are probably my most bought items from Lush. I can still remember visiting Lush when I was a child before it was as popular as it is today.

We were shown a number of the newer bath bombs for sale, such as Sherbet Dip, Ectoplasm and Thundersnow, which I think is going to be super popular this year.  It’s always nice to have live demos of new bath bombs as I’m really indecisive about which ones to go for so really enjoy a little preview before I choose which one to take home.

As always I ended up having a little splurge at the event – I mean how could I resist? Plus the Lush Newcastle store were really kind and gave us a lovely little goodie bag. So you can expect a little (large) Lush haul coming in the next week or so.  I’d love to know what items you’re most excited to try from the new Halloween and Christmas range, comment below!
