VEGANUARY: THINGS I’VE LEARNT WHILST BEING VEGAN FOR A MONTH

Is anybody else ecstatic that January is finally over? Probably. Now I usually enjoy the first couple of weeks of the month as I’m counting down to my birthday (I turned 26 on the 20th btw) but once that is over with I’m wishing the winter away and craving spring sunshine. This year has been a little different as I have had more than just my birthday to focus on in January. Now let’s just ignore the fact that as a whole the month has been quite lacklustre. My aim to start the year as I meant to go on…

Dining at 100ft with Chaophraya and S.Pellegrino

Dining at 100ft with Chaophraya and S.Pellegrino   When the email arrived in my inbox inviting me along to Newcastle in the sky in collaboration with S.Pellegrino I instantly said yes.  I mean how often do you get the chance to dine 100ft in the air? Then reality hit and as somebody who isn’t all that good with heights, you can imagine how scared I was.  But I was lucky enough that Lee agreed to come along as my plus one, as I don’t think I would have managed to get myself up there on my own. We were told to…

Meet and Treat: Newcastle’s Hidden Gem

I adore food like I really love it. When I go anywhere new the first thing I do is find out where is good to eat, I can’t help myself, I’m a foodie. But I often forget to try new places in my own city and tend to always go to the same places which can get quite boring. Over the past year or so I have been trying to visit new places and try new food instead of my usual eateries all the time. Meet and Treat is one of those places that is quite hidden away and easy…

Hive Coffee Company at Jarrow Hall.

Last Thursday evening I attended the V.I.P launch of Hive Coffee Company, a cafe based in Jarrow Hall which opened at the weekend. The cafe is a collaboration between two friends, Eve McPadden and Sarah Daglish, and they’re helping bring the old Bede’s world site back to life. I remember visiting Bede’s world on a school trip in year 3 and was sad to hear of its closure. But thanks to the charity Groundwork the site has been re-launched in October 2016 as Jarrow Hall, Anglo-Saxon Farm, Village and Bede Museum. The cafe itself is based in Jarrow Hall, a…

Chaophraya: Newcastle’s Newest Rooftop Restaurant

If you live in Newcastle you’ll be aware that loads of new restaurants have recently opened in Eldon Square, there was quite a few that are restaurants that we already have which is a little disappointing. However there have been quite a few new places opening up for the first time in the city and last month I was lucky enough to be invited along with a plus one to the official opening of Chaophraya, Newcastle’s new rooftop Thai restaurant.  Now I must apologise in advance for the quality of these photographs, I didn’t want to lug my huge camera around…

American Afternoon Tea at the Karbon Grill Sunderland.

Last week I was invited along to the Hilton Garden Inn in Sunderland, situated at the Hilton Garden Inn. The hotels very own Karbon Grill restaurant has recently launched an American style Afternoon Tea. So I hopped on the metro after work and headed on over to the Stadium of Light to try it out.  You’re probably wondering how an American style Afternoon Tea differs from a classic Afternoon Tea and it’s as simple as instead of cucumber sandwiches and fruit scones its filled with American themed sweets and treats. Filled with mini sliders, calzones, spicy buffalo wings and cheesy…

Ninja Burger Launch At No28

Back at the beginning of June, I received an exciting email in my inbox inviting me to the launch of a brand new burger brand called Ninja Burger. I must admit I hadn’t really heard much about them and even google couldn’t help too much in finding out who they were. But I was curious and the event itself was hosted in my all time favourite bar No28 – where I spent many an evening sipping cocktails with my old university housemates. Luckily I was allowed to bring a plus one, so I grabbed Lee and we headed on down…

Review: Five Guys Metro Centre

Now you’ll have to have been living under a rock to not be aware that Five Guys now have a home in the UK. I remember first hearing about them back in 2013 when I was in Canada and my cousins mentioned the burger chain. But I didn’t think much of it until I started seeing them popping up around the UK.  As usual, the North was left behind a little and we only got our own Five Guys a few months ago at Intu-Metro Centre, which has had a huge addition of loads of amazing new restaurants such as…

Eating In Newcastle On A Budget.

Now its been almost been two years since I was last a student, although I swear it was more like two minutes ago. But I still enjoy having a good night out on a budget. When I was at Uni I did the whole ‘going out out’ thing, partying with my housemates and rolling home at 4am with little memory of what happened that evening. I loved that time in my life, but after a year or so I grew tired of it and now find so much more pleasure in going for a night out to a restaurant for…

Rum and Reggae at Turtle Bay!

If you know me at all you’ll know I am a huge lover of food. I think I’ve gotten to that age now where I’d happily choose a nice meal out and a few cocktails over an evening clubbing, so as you can imagine I was over the moon to be invited along to the press launch of a brand new restaurant opening up in Newcastle. I love trying new types of food so I was excited that Newcastle would adding Turtle Bay, a Caribbean restaurant full of jerk spices and gorgeous rum cocktails to the restaurant list. When we…

Quaint Cafe’s – Newcastle’s Hidden Gems

Anybody who knows me will be aware that I love quaint little cafe’s and coffee shops. The individuality of them, getting to know the staff and not to mention the range and variety on their menus. I’d happily pick that over a pumpkin spiced latte and a ham and cheese toastie any day of the week. So when I was asked by Talented Talkers and Travelodge to write about my favourite places in Newcastle I jumped at the chance to feature a handful of my favourite spots, and believe me it was hard to pick only a few. Curious Leaves…

Pact Coffee – Artisan Coffee Straight Through Your Door.

Believe it or not over the last decade I have gone from hating coffee in every single shape or form, to being a fully functioning coffee addict. Starting my coffee journey off drinking uber chocolatey mochas, which truthfully taste more than chocolate than anything else. To now being in a position where I enjoy tasting a range of different coffees with different undertones and flavours. Yep, not all coffee tastes the same. Now i’ve always tended to buy my coffee from the supermarket and I can never seem to get my coffee at home to taste as nice as when…
